China's Air Purifier Market Valued at 1.7 Bn USD in 2015
Yale University released a report, Environmental Performance Index: 2016 Report
, ranking the air quality of 180 countries. Unexpectedly, China's air quality ranked the penultimate, only better than Bangladesh.
What are the sources of air pollution in China?
PM 2.5 is seriously exceeded in most regions in China, mainly caused by the coal-fired plants, industrial processes and vehicle emissions.
Where are the highly polluted areas in China?
The most polluted areas are the coal-dependent and industrial regions such as Hebei, Shandong and Shanxi, and the more economically developed regions such as Beijing, Tianjin, the Yangtze and Pearl River deltas.
How did the Chinese government and the Chinese populace respond to the pollution?
Chinese Government Measures:
- Improved the auto emissions standards in many times
- Closed several coal-fired plants
- Limited issuing the license plates in several tier 1 cities
- Released the 12th Five-Year Plan for Controlling the Air Pollution in Key Regions
- Released the Air Pollution Control Action Plan
- Modified the Environmental Protection Law
in 2014 for identifying the subjects and responsibilities of the environmental protection department
- Modified the Air Pollution Control Action Plan
in 2015 for identifying the controlling objects and proposing measures in aspects of coal burning, industries, vehicles and vessels, dust and agriculture
The Populace Measures:
Even though ordinary people are unable to make better improvements in air quality, as the pollution is getting worse, most consumers choose to buy air purifiers to improve their living circumstances. According to the analysis by PIM, the sale volume of air purifiers increased up to 47% CAGR over the past 5 years and the market size reached 1.7 Bn USD in 2015. Today, air pollution will still require several years to be improved.
According to PIM research, there are more than 300 air purifier manufacturers in China, shaping the pattern with foreign brands dominating the offline business and domestic brands flourishing on line.
Compared to the 2008 edition, the newly modified Air Cleaner
(GB/T18801-2015, implemented in March 1st
, 2016) proposes to strictly detect the PM CADR index (Clean Air Delivery Rate), puts forward a method to calculate the filter service life and adds a testing method and standard of formaldehyde performance index (which is the cumulated clean mass, or CCM). Based on these indexes, consumers can be well informed to make good choices.
As the new standard is implemented, China’s air purifier industry is going through dramatic huge change. Low-end products will end up leaving the market. Finally, the qualified producers will stand lead the market.
